PSD Deputies Request Increased Police Presence and Station Improvements in Madeira

PSD deputies elected for Madeira to the Assembly of the Republic met with the Regional Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) to assess the security situation in the region.

One highlighted outcome was the reinforcement of 30 PSP officers at Madeira Airport, a measure already announced and attributed by the party to its insistence with the Ministry of Internal Administration. Paulo Neves, a Social Democrat deputy, deemed this "good news" for the region, crucial for ensuring passenger control fluidity, especially for the tourism sector.

During the meeting, PSP infrastructure was also discussed, with particular attention to police stations needing intervention. The situation at the Porto Santo station was described as "deeply concerning," and the need for a new station in Machico was advocated. Projects for the Ponta do Sol and Santa Cruz stations are complete but await budgetary correction for tender re-launch.

Additionally, the deputies reiterated the demand for an "island subsidy" for PSP officers stationed in Madeira, arguing that, like other public servants, they should benefit from this support.
