The PSD/M parliamentary group highlighted the importance of a second aerial unit becoming operational for forest fire fighting in the Region. According to deputy Sérgio Oliveira, this reinforcement fulfills a long-standing demand and enhances the region's response capacity.
Oliveira stressed the versatility and speed of the new aircraft, which can reach difficult-to-access areas in minutes, making fire suppression more effective. The measure aims to protect Madeira's population, forests, and environmental heritage.
The parliamentarian recalled that this demand dates back to 2018 and that, following continuous negotiations between the Regional Government and the Republic Government, funding was secured through the State Budget. The second aerial unit will remain on the island until November 30, with the goal of ensuring its availability from the start of the fire fighting deployment next year.
