Geographer and botany expert Raimundo Quintal has expressed indignation regarding the conservation status and management of the green spaces on Funchal's Public Seaside Promenade, between Ponta da Cruz and Lido.
Quintal points to a depletion of floral diversity, the excessive use of exotic species like Agave attenuata (swanneck), and the presence of Lantana camara, classified as invasive, along with maintenance problems such as incorrect pruning and the poor condition of some dragon trees.
Lamenting the negative evolution of the area, which he helped to develop in the past, Raimundo Quintal states that each visit causes him "a pang in his heart," advocating for the valorization of native and endemic plant diversity.
