PSD deputies presented on Friday, in the Madeira Legislative Assembly, a draft resolution to inform the next revision of Portugal's Constitution. The proposal calls for deeper autonomy powers and new constitutional guarantees giving Madeira and the Azores a greater say in decisions that directly affect them.
Parliamentary leader Jaime Filipe Ramos said the revision should be bold and ambitious on autonomy, noting that the subject has not been seriously discussed or deepened in more than 20 years. Among the changes, he highlighted enshrining the principle of territorial continuity in the Constitution, and giving the Region the option of setting its own tax system.
The party also hopes to build broad agreement among regional political forces and a joint position with the Azores Legislative Assembly.
