The REAGIR movement has accused the Regional Government of Madeira of prioritizing the island's image promotion over addressing pressing social problems.
In a statement, the group highlighted difficulties within the Regional Health Service, such as patients awaiting discharge remaining in hospitals due to a lack of social support, and criticized the pressure on healthcare professionals and poor coordination between Health and Social Security sectors.
REAGIR also warned about the rising cost of living, inflation, declining family purchasing power, and housing access challenges, stating that the Executive has not provided effective solutions. The movement further criticized the use of the Festa do Chão da Lagoa as a platform for a "success narrative," arguing that tourism awards and campaigns do not solve structural issues and that the government should focus on health, housing, social action, and family support.
