The island of Madeira, including Porto Santo, is currently under a yellow weather warning due to intense heat. Authorities have issued this alert in response to the forecast of persistently high temperatures.
In the higher altitude areas of the island, the warning for intense heat will be upgraded to orange from midnight tonight, with temperatures expected to exceed 30°C. The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) forecasts that yellow alerts for persistently high maximum temperatures will be in effect from 9:00 am this Thursday until 5:00 pm on Saturday, July 4th.
Additionally, UV radiation levels will be very high, possibly extreme, necessitating adequate sun protection to prevent rapid sunburn.
