The President of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, Rubina Leal, participated in a conference in Lisbon on the theme “Cohesive Portugal: the strategic role of regional autonomies”. The event, organized by Grémio Literário and Diário de Bordo Editores, also featured contributions from Guilherme Silva and João Caupers.
In her speech, Rubina Leal stated that regional autonomy is "one of the happiest achievements of Portuguese democracy," highlighting its contribution to Madeira's development. She also emphasized the region's strategic Atlantic position and the importance of its outermost region status.
Leal stressed the need for in-depth discussion on the future and deepening of regional autonomies, including their role in national decision-making centers, as many crucial matters depend on debates in the Assembly of the Republic.
