Manuel Jorge Bazenga Marques is recognized as one of the protagonists of Madeira's Autonomy, not for grand speeches, but for the region's daily construction.
Upon joining the 1st Regional Government in 1976, Bazenga Marques focused on transforming the constitutional principle of autonomy into a functional administration, negotiating powers and creating essential services to meet the needs of Madeirans.
With a career spanning areas such as Labour, Social Affairs, Health, and Agriculture, he was the only Madeiran to serve uninterruptedly in the first seven regional governments, consolidating Madeira's institutional structure.
