Elected councilors from PSD/M to the Machico Municipal Chamber have submitted a request to the Executive President, demanding detailed clarifications on the municipal housing policy and the results of announced measures.
The initiative follows public statements about the doubling of municipal support for housing rehabilitation, increasing from five to ten thousand euros, and the identification of 40 to 50 applications. The social-democrat councilors believe that while support for home recovery is positive, it does not solve the main housing problem of acquisition or rental. They also question the progress of the housing project through cooperatives and request an objective evaluation of the reduction in licensing fees for collective construction.
PSD-M also wants to know if the Municipal Chamber plans to create an affordable municipal housing fund or other structural measures for young people and families without their own homes. The request safeguards personal data protection by asking for statistical characterization of processes, the number of applications from low-income families, and whether the covered housing is legally built.
