The Regional Government of Madeira, through the Regional Directorate for Communities and External Cooperation, has expressed its deep sorrow over the passing of Ignatius Severiano Ferreira.
Born to Madeiran parents, Ignatius Severiano Ferreira was a distinguished leader of the Portuguese community in Trinidad and Tobago and an exemplary representative of Portugal and Madeira in that territory. His life is described as an extraordinary testament to dedication, perseverance, and success, built from a modest family of emigrants.
Throughout his career, he stood out as a businessman, always maintaining a strong connection to Madeira. He served as Honorary Consul of Portugal in Port of Spain, where he provided service to the Portuguese State and strengthened bilateral relations, supporting the Portuguese community. He was also a promoter of Madeiran traditions and culture.
Ignatius Severiano Ferreira received several distinctions, including the degree of Commander from the Portuguese State. The Regional Government honours his memory and extends condolences to his family.
