The President of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, Rubina Leal, met with the Portuguese Consul in New Bedford, Tiago de Sousa, to address the reality of the Portuguese community in the United States and the challenges faced by citizens abroad.
During the meeting, the crucial role of the Portuguese community in the economic, social, and cultural development of New Bedford was highlighted. Rubina Leal advocated for bringing public services closer to emigrant communities, calling for the streamlining of administrative procedures and the reduction of bureaucracy for faster and more effective responses.
Leal also emphasized the importance of promoting exchange programs between Portugal, particularly Madeira, and New Bedford, involving young people from both territories to foster mutual understanding and strengthen cultural ties.
