Rubina Leal begins official visit to Madeiran communities in Canada and USA

The President of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, Rubina Leal, has begun an official visit to Toronto, Canada, and New Bedford, in the United States. The aim is to reinforce institutional ties with emigrant communities and recognize the role of Madeirans and their descendants in promoting the Autonomous Region beyond its borders.

The trip, at the invitation of the Canadian Madeira Club and the Clube Madeirense do Santíssimo Sacramento, includes a program of institutional, community, cultural, economic, and academic initiatives. The agenda covers meetings with diplomatic representatives, local authorities, business people, and educational institutions, as well as visits to spaces preserving the memory of Madeiran emigration.

Rubina Leal emphasized that the mission seeks to bring the Madeiran Parliament closer to emigrants, listening to their challenges and reaffirming that residents abroad are an integral part of the Region. The visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, extending the celebrations to emigrant communities as a tribute to those who promote Madeiran identity.
