Official Rui Abreu visited the support center in Junquito, Venezuela, and highlighted the impressive response capacity of a poor community affected by an earthquake.
In the heart of this mountainous area of Caracas, home to many Madeirans and their descendants, Abreu found a support network organized by the population itself, providing food, medicine, clothing, and other essential goods. He emphasized that, in the absence of official aid, residents are organizing cleanup and rebuilding their lives.
Abreu compared the solidarity in Junquito to the reality in Madeira, where communities unite to support those in need. He found the connection to their homeland "incredible" for those returning and willing to rebuild destroyed buildings despite significant losses.
