Rural Fire Danger Increases in Madeira Until Tuesday

Civil Protection warns of increased rural fire risk in Madeira due to adverse weather, including strong winds and low humidity.

Rural Fire Danger Increases in Madeira Until Tuesday

The Regional Civil Protection Service (SRPC) has issued a public warning about the increased risk of rural fires on the island of Madeira. Forecasted weather conditions, gradually worsening until Tuesday, September 15th, are conducive to fire ignition and spread.

High-altitude areas and the easternmost parts of the island are of greatest concern. Winds, predominantly from the north/northeast, could reach gusts of 60 km/h, while a decrease in relative air humidity will increase vegetation dryness. Civil Protection advises extra caution in rural areas, such as avoiding the use of spark-producing equipment and camping in forest areas.
