The Santa Cruz Municipal Council has responded to three employees being formally charged as suspects as part of a Public Prosecutor's Office investigation into alleged irregularities in competitive selection procedures.
In a statement, the local authority stated its conviction that "no criminal offense was committed" and that it will await the judicial process "with serenity." The Council emphasized that the status of being a suspect does not equate to a conviction and that those involved benefit from the presumption of innocence.
The three employees have been suspended from their duties and prohibited from contacting certain individuals and entering the municipal building, after being charged with suspected manipulation of hiring processes to favor specific candidates.
