The Psychology Service of SESARAM, EPERAM, promoted a program based on mindfulness and compassion that reached approximately 60 children and young people in Machico and Santa Cruz.
The initiative, led by clinical psychologists Paula Chapéu and Círia Correia, had a pilot experience last year and was expanded due to positive results. In Machico, 41 preschool and 4th-grade children from EB1/PE School and Eng.º Luís Santos Costa Nursery participated. In Santa Cruz, the program included 19 students, aged 16 to 18, from vocational courses in Sports and Computer Education and Training.
Through multidisciplinary sessions, participants learned tools to promote emotional regulation and well-being, in coordination with institutional and community resources. SESARAM highlights that this type of program is a priority for the Psychology Service, aiming at the prevention and reduction of anxiety, stress, and depression symptoms, and the development of emotional intelligence.
