Sílvia Sousa Silva Questions Effectiveness of Livestock in Rural Fire Prevention

PS deputy Sílvia Sousa Silva questions the Regional Government's capacity to implement an effective directed grazing model for rural fire prevention.

PS deputy in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira, Sílvia Sousa Silva, has questioned the Regional Government's capacity to implement an effective directed grazing model for rural fire prevention. She accused the Executive President, Miguel Albuquerque, of changing his stance on the matter only after the major fires that occurred in the Region in October 2023.

Sousa Silva maintains that the discussion should focus on concrete measures applied on the ground and the available technical and legal framework, criticizing what she considers a model that imposes restrictions on livestock, limiting their ability to manage forest fuels.

The socialist parliamentarian questions whether the Region has specialized services, technical capacity, and legal framework for a model that combines fire risk reduction with economic opportunities for livestock breeders.
