The strong winds affecting the Madeira region have led to a weekend of significant disruptions for passengers. Madeira Airport experienced 8 diverted flights and 20 cancellations (arrivals and departures). Several flights were redirected to Porto Santo, the Canary Islands, and Lisbon.
The sea link between Porto Santo and Madeira, operated by the ferry 'Lobo Marinho', also faced limitations, with a forecast of no available spaces on board. This situation may be related to the vessel recently operating with only one engine, potentially affecting its capacity.
The adverse weather conditions, with wind gusts reaching 60 km/h, prompted some passengers to choose to remain in Porto Santo rather than continue their journey to Madeira. An improvement in conditions is expected from Sunday afternoon onwards.
