Wind in Santa Cruz once again affects Madeira Airport

Wind conditions in Santa Cruz led to an easyJet flight diversion and delayed other arrivals at Madeira Airport.

Wind conditions in Santa Cruz have once again affected operations at Madeira Airport this Friday afternoon, September 12, 2026.

An easyJet Europe flight bound for Madeira was diverted back to Lisbon Airport. FlightRadar data shows that flight EJU7623, originating from Lisbon, was unable to land in Madeira and returned to its origin airport. The Santa Catarina weather station recorded wind gusts of 69 km/h at 11:30 am.

Other flights were also impacted. easyJet flight EJU5333 from Berlin attempted to land unsuccessfully and was circling the island. SAS flight SK2901 from Stockholm was also awaiting favorable landing conditions. An easyJet flight from Geneva was diverted to the Canary Islands, with several other flights waiting to land.
