A lemon with a particularly unusual appearance has been harvested from the garden of José Pereira dos Reis in the Levada do Cavalo area of Madeira. The fruit immediately attracted attention due to its size and, above all, its extraordinary shape, featuring a large, rounded upper section with a long, narrow growth extending from it.
To determine the cause of this deformity, the citrus fruit will undergo laboratory analysis at GESBA. Specialists may be able to identify the factors that led to its atypical development, which can include physiological abnormalities, environmental conditions, pests, or other interference during fruit formation.
For now, the remarkable lemon is proving that perfect shape is not the only way for a fruit to become the centre of attention.
