Vânia Jesus, a PSD Member of Parliament for Madeira in the Assembly of the Republic, urged the government to speed up the implementation of the new mobility model between the region and the mainland. She stressed that communication with citizens "must be clear, consistent, and permanent," demanding assurances that the solution allowing residents to pay only the fare amount will be realized "as quickly as possible."
Jesus criticized the previous PS government for not regulating a parliamentary-approved law on the matter in eight years, describing it as a "pocket veto" and "abandonment of the Autonomous Regions." However, she emphasized that the current government is not absolved of responsibility, recalling that initial changes to the social mobility subsidy were discriminatory towards the autonomous regions.
The MP pointed out flaws in the new electronic platform, which proved "excessively complex and confusing," and criticized the lack of clear information during the transition period. The Minister of Infrastructure confirmed the process is under review, and the Secretary of State assured that the resident-only fare solution remains planned, pending stabilization of ongoing changes.
