Water scarcity is an increasingly present challenge in Portugal, with Madeira recently experiencing water shortages in areas like Feiteiras, in São Vicente. Data indicates that the country wastes millions of cubic meters of water annually in its supply networks before it even reaches consumers.
To combat this issue, DECO PROteste suggests consumers adopt simple measures to reduce daily water consumption. These include opting for quick showers, turning off the tap while brushing teeth, promptly repairing leaks, and reusing cold water. Using washing machines with full loads and ECO programs, as well as watering gardens during cooler hours, are further recommendations.
DECO PROteste also reminds that water supply is an essential public service, and managing entities have a duty to inform consumers clearly and timely about any interruptions or anomalies. Consumers should check their bills and complain if they find incorrect charges.
