Juventude Popular (JP) Madeira believes that difficulties in accessing housing and nursery costs are factors conditioning young people's decision to have children. This position was highlighted during a meeting with the Family Planning Association (APF Madeira) as part of the "Build the Future — Home, Family, and Birth Rate" event.
The meeting analyzed obstacles to starting a family, identifying challenges in accessing housing, prolonged stays with parents, and job market demands as factors that may lead to delaying parenthood. Leandro Silva, president of JP Madeira, advocated for reconciling salaries, housing, and professional demands with family projects.
The discussion also covered the implications of delayed motherhood, sex education, and family planning in schools, including the need for better information on contraception and fertility. Support for parenthood was also discussed, with an emphasis on nursery costs and the need for services compatible with parents' working hours.
