Education Framework Law Needs Adjustments for Current Challenges

The Framework Law for the Education System, while fundamental, requires adjustments to face the challenges of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and new social competencies. Liliana Rodrigues, a professor at the University of Madeira (UMa), highlighted this need during a seminar on the legislation's 40th anniversary.

Rodrigues emphasized that regional autonomy in education must be accompanied by adequate resources to prevent increased inequalities. The integration of artificial intelligence into the educational process was pointed out as a future challenge, advocating for an approach of incorporation rather than rejection.

School dropout, particularly in higher education, remains a significant national concern, demanding policies that ensure not only access but also retention and completion of educational pathways.
