The Church of São João Evangelista (Colégio) in Funchal hosts the inaugural concert of the 15th Madeira International Organ Festival (FIOM) this Friday, October 16th, at 9:30 PM. The event, artistically directed by João Vaz and themed "Madeira and the World," celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Region's Autonomy.
The festival, running until October 25th, features national and international performers and aims to reflect on Madeira's historical relationship with its diaspora and its role as a cultural meeting point. The opening concert, led by Australian organist Alexander Paine, will showcase a program exploring the influence of great composers on subsequent generations, with works by Bach, Brahms, and Liszt, among others.
