The ADN party expressed deep regret that, on the Day of the Autonomous Region of Madeira and Madeiran Communities, the island was prevented by the Republic's Government from providing assistance to a human tragedy in Venezuela.
Eighteen Madeiran operatives, including firefighters and an EMIR doctor, were ready to depart in under 24 hours, equipped with advanced training in search and rescue. However, they remained on the ground because the decision rested with Lisbon, which the ADN considers a reflection of Madeira's limited autonomy.
The party advocates for Autonomous Regions to have direct decision-making power in mobilizing their civil protection resources for international missions, without relying on authorizations from Lisbon that may be delayed or absent.
