ADN Madeira has issued a statement contesting the Regional Government's discourse on "64 months of growth." The party offers an alternative perspective, focusing on the impact of the rising cost of living for residents.
According to the party, since 2021, while average gross remuneration grew by about 28%, diesel prices increased by approximately 55%, the median housing price nearly doubled, and rents for new contracts rose from 5.90 to 11.97 euros per square meter. ADN Madeira highlights that the official food price index was already about 34% higher than in May 2021.
The party clarifies it does not question economic growth itself, but rather a policy that presents growth as a sufficient victory when the cost of living in Madeira rises faster than many workers' incomes. Eduardo Quintal, cited in the statement, asserts that autonomy should serve to reduce the region's disadvantages, and economic growth is only progress if families can live with dignity on their salaries.
