Albuquerque Asserts Opposition Lacks Competence to Govern Madeira

Miguel Albuquerque concluded the State of the Region debate, asserting that the Madeiran people are wise and have chosen who should govern after 50 years. "The opposition does not have the competence to govern this land," stated the President of the Regional Government.

Albuquerque rejected claims of being out of touch with regional reality, recalling that in the 2025 elections, the Madeirans clearly chose their government. He highlighted 61 months of continuous economic growth, tax reductions, and investments in housing and health.

The Madeiran executive president also addressed the opposition's proposal to reduce VAT, stating he would never lower the tax without the principle of capitalization being approved, to prevent Madeirans from paying the difference. He also guaranteed that the promised 805 housing units would be delivered by September and that demands to the Republic would continue to ensure Madeirans' rights.
