Around 245 patients who have been medically discharged remain hospitalized in Madeira's Dr. Nélio Mendonça and Marmeleiros hospitals, awaiting social support or other accommodation solutions.
The Regional Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (SESARAM) was informed by the Madeira Social Security Institute about the availability of 30 places for these individuals. 17 of these were made available immediately, with another 13 expected in the coming days.
SESARAM emphasizes that the continued stay of these patients occupies essential beds needed for patients requiring specialized hospital care, placing significant pressure on the regional health system. The service views the 30 available places as an important step but stresses that the issue requires a joint and ongoing response between the Health and Social sectors.
