The Portuguese Ministry of Education has implemented a new digital correction model for national exams, using artificial intelligence (AI) to grade multiple-choice questions.
However, the transition to this technology has not been without its issues. The Minister of Education himself admitted that the system had a problematic start, with technical failures and a parametrization error that led to the review of thousands of students' grades.
Critics point out that the use of AI for a task like correcting multiple-choice tests, which in more organized institutions was already routine via optical scanners, was presented as a technological revolution when it essentially resembles a basic modernization of the process.
