In the first quarter of 2026, 48 cases related to bankruptcy, insolvency, and business recovery were filed in the judicial courts of first instance in the Madeira district. This figure represents a decrease of 15.8% compared to the 57 cases registered in the fourth quarter of 2025.
However, when compared to the same period in 2025, when 42 cases were recorded, there was an increase of 14.3%. During Q1 2026, 62 cases were concluded, a 51.2% increase from the same quarter last year. Of these, 53 cases resulted in declared bankruptcy or insolvency, accounting for 85.5% of the total.
The number of declared bankruptcies or insolvencies surpassed the figures from the previous quarter (49 cases) and the same period in 2025 (37 cases), showing increases of 8.2% and 43.2%, respectively. The majority of cases with declared bankruptcy or insolvency (62.3%) involved individuals, totaling 33 cases, while 20 cases involved legal entities.
