The CDU has issued a statement addressing a technical report on the 'Cable Car System for Curral das Freiras and Jardim da Serra' project. According to the party, the document indicates serious planning flaws by the Regional Government and local authorities.
The report estimates an average daily demand of 650 users, a significant increase in traffic that the current road network is not prepared to handle. It identifies a lack of an integrated strategy for traffic and parking management as a central problem, warning of the risk that visitors may not find parking, impacting residents. Narrow access roads with informal parking could compromise safety and emergency access.
Beyond mobility, the report mentions economic risks, environmental and landscape concerns, coordination issues between entities, and potential social opposition due to increased traffic and noise. The CDU criticizes the Regional Government for proceeding with the project without addressing these basic planning issues and safeguarding public interest.
