SINERGIA reiterates opposition to EEM Group privatization in meeting with Chega

The SINERGIA – Energy Union met with the Chega Parliamentary Group as part of a series of encounters with parties represented in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira.

When questioned about a potential privatization of the EEM Group, SINERGIA stated it had no knowledge of any ongoing process but reiterated its principled stance: it is against any privatization, total or partial, of the company.

The union argues that the electricity transport and distribution network is a natural monopoly and that only public, integrated management ensures efficiency gains. As an example, it pointed to EMACOM's role in operating the EllaLink submarine cable, which introduced competition to the wholesale telecommunications market.

On the labor front, the union demanded a transparent, tripartite negotiation process for updating the Company Agreement. SINERGIA also expressed regret at not having yet received any counterproposal from the Board of Directors, despite being the first to request the opening of negotiations.
