Chega's parliamentary leader, Hugo Nunes, accused the Regional Government, led by the PSD in coalition with the CDS-PP, of continuing to collect tax revenue from rising fuel prices. Nunes argues that the executive has the means to lower the Tax on Petroleum Products (ISP) and ease prices for consumers.
According to figures presented, the ISP reduction could amount to approximately 13 cents per liter for gasoline and seven cents for diesel. Chega had previously presented a similar initiative in March 2026, advocating for the use of regional fiscal autonomy to reduce the ISP and demanding transparency in the formation of maximum fuel prices.
Hugo Nunes also criticized initiatives presented by the PS and JPP, viewing them as similar to Chega's proposal. The parliamentarian reiterated the call for a tax reduction, stating that the priority should be to alleviate the burdens on those who rely on cars and on businesses affected by increased fuel costs.
