Bruno Macedo, from the PSD party, has rejected criticism from the PS and JPP regarding the Regional Government's fuel policy. The social-democrat deputy argued that prices in Madeira have, on several occasions, been lower than those on the mainland, despite the added costs associated with being an island region.
During a debate on proposals to reduce the ISP (Tax on Petroleum Products), Macedo contested the notion that the regional executive has not taken measures to protect consumers. To support his stance, he presented price comparisons for gasoline and diesel for the years 2024, 2025, and 2026.
Macedo contended that price analysis should consider trends over time, not just specific price hikes. He also criticized the opposition for presenting an incomplete view of the issue, noting that the final fuel price is influenced by more than just the ISP, including other taxes and charges.
