JPP calls for ISP reduction to return extra tax revenue to Madeira's citizens

The JPP party has proposed in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira a downward revision of the Tax on Petroleum and Energy Products (ISP). The aim is to alleviate fuel prices and return to families and businesses the additional tax revenue generated by price increases.

Luís Martins, a JPP deputy, deemed it unfair that the Regional Government benefits from increased tax revenue while Madeirans face higher costs. The party highlighted the impact of fuel on the cost of living, families' disposable income, and the competitiveness of regional businesses.

The JPP maintains that the Region has room to reduce the ISP and argues that fiscal autonomy should be used to mitigate the effects of rising international prices, particularly in transport, agriculture, fishing, and logistics. The proposal includes a mechanism to automatically return to consumers the additional tax revenue generated by higher fuel prices.
