CHEGA Deputy Accuses PSD of Abandoning Immigration Control Promises

CHEGA deputy Francisco Gomes has accused the PSD of abandoning promises made to the Portuguese people regarding immigration control, claiming the party is effectively following a policy similar to that of the PS and other left-wing parties.

Gomes stated that the government has retreated on issues it considered priorities while in opposition, showing a lack of determination to combat illegal and uncontrolled immigration and to strengthen national border protection. He criticized the retention of nationality for those convicted of pedophilia and the automatic access of immigrants to social benefits like family allowance.

The parliamentarian argued that Portugal needs a stricter immigration policy and warned of potential demographic changes if current trends continue. Gomes assured that CHEGA will continue to demand a serious and responsible immigration policy focused on defending national interests.
