Chega-Madeira Youth on Saturday criticized the Republic's Government for the delay in fully implementing the new Territorial Continuity Mechanism. The organization considers the situation a financial obstacle for young people and families in the region, who are still required to pay the full airfare upfront for travel to the mainland.
According to the group, amendments approved by the Assembly of the Republic aim to eliminate the maximum limit on eligible travel costs and allow direct payment of only the fixed amount at travel agencies, without needing to wait for reimbursement. Chega-Madeira Youth argues that mobility is an essential right and that insularity should not be treated as a penalty.
"A Madeiran should not need a fortune to exercise their right to mobility," stated coordinator Renata Rocha, emphasizing that the government must implement the changes "won in parliament." The organization demands the swift completion of the process by the national executive.
