The Regional Service for Civil Protection (SRPC) has issued a warning to the population of Madeira due to forecasts of hot and dry weather in the coming days. Temperatures are expected to rise slightly, accompanied by low relative humidity, creating conditions conducive to an increased risk of rural fires.
A yellow warning for hot weather is in effect for the entire archipelago on Thursday, September 24, and is expected to continue on Friday, September 25. Civil Protection acknowledges the possibility of suspended dust and warns of difficulties in combating fires under these conditions. Extra caution is recommended in rural areas, including the prohibition of bonfires and restricted use of equipment that could generate sparks.
Given the high temperatures, it is advised to avoid sun exposure during the hottest hours, increase hydration, and reduce outdoor physical activity, paying special attention to vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly. The weather warning may be extended until Saturday, when a change in the scenario is expected with the wind rotating to the west and a gradual decrease in temperature.
