The Regional Civil Protection Service has announced that, according to IPMA forecasts, an easterly current will bring a temperature rise and hot, dry air to Madeira in the coming days. A yellow meteorological warning for hot weather has been issued for the entire archipelago for Thursday, September 24th.
Conditions are expected to include light to moderate easterly winds, low relative humidity, particularly in higher altitudes, and potential dust in suspension. These hot and dry conditions are forecast to continue on Friday, September 25th, with the yellow warning potentially extended to Saturday, September 26th.
From Saturday onwards, a shift to westerly winds is anticipated, accompanied by a gradual decrease in temperature and an increase in humidity. Civil Protection advises adopting behaviors to mitigate the risk of rural fires, such as avoiding spark-producing equipment in rural areas and adhering to the ban on bonfires and burning between April 1st and October 31st.
Further recommendations include calling 112 for emergencies, avoiding camping in forest areas, being mindful of dehydration risks on hiking trails, staying hydrated, avoiding direct sun exposure and heavy meals, and protecting vulnerable populations.
