Diverted Flight Prevents Auxiliary Bishop of Caracas from Celebrating Mass in Funchal Cathedral

D. José Dionísio Gouveia, Auxiliary Bishop of Caracas, will not be able to preside over the Eucharist scheduled for this morning in Funchal Cathedral. The flight bringing him to Madeira was diverted to Lisbon, making his arrival in time for the 11:00 AM service impossible.

The Diocese of Funchal confirmed the information, clarifying that the mass will proceed as planned, but without the bishop's presence.

However, D. José Dionísio Gouveia will still visit Ribeira Seca, in Machico, his family's home parish. An Eucharist is scheduled there for 4:30 PM as part of local festivities, a significant occasion for the Luso-Venezuelan bishop.
