The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) has raised its precipitation warning to orange for the south coast and mountainous regions of Madeira, citing forecasts of sometimes heavy showers and thunderstorms.
The orange warning is in effect from midnight to 9 am on Sunday, 1 November, a period when worsening conditions are expected. Before that, the same areas are under a yellow warning from 9 pm Saturday to midnight, and the level drops back to yellow after 9 am until noon.
The north coast of Madeira is also under yellow precipitation warnings from 9 pm Saturday to noon Sunday, due to possible heavy showers and thunderstorms. Porto Santo has a yellow warning for Sunday from 6 am to 3 pm for the same reason.
