Jorge Afonso Freitas, an independent councilor in the Funchal Municipal Chamber (CMF), has admitted the possibility of returning to the Chega party, but stressed that no definitive agreement is yet in place.
Freitas confirmed he accepted an invitation to the party's 'rentrée' rally and expressed his availability to discuss a potential return. However, he rejected claims that his formalization is already agreed for the next council meeting, clarifying that he only committed to attending the rally.
The councilor explained that what was proposed is the initiation of a dialogue to renegotiate terms, to be conducted calmly and without haste. While he believes his proposals were verbally agreed upon, he noted the lack of written confirmation of all conditions, preventing him from announcing a definitive return without clarity on the terms.
Freitas, who became independent in February following disagreements with Chega's regional structure, will not attend the next CMF meeting due to health reasons. He reaffirmed his commitment to continue his term as an independent councilor, with responsibility and respect for voters, until an understanding is reached or not.
