The Youth wing of Juntos pelo Povo (JPP) has accused the Madeira JSD (Social Democratic Youth) of devaluing crucial issues faced by the region's young people. Alexandre Gomes, leader of JPP Youth, criticized the JSD's focus on social gatherings while difficulties with the cost of living, housing, and salaries persist.
Gomes deemed it "worrying" that thousands of Madeiran youths struggle with daily expenses, while the PSD's youth structure concentrates on "entertainment" at the end of summer. He stated that if the JSD truly worked for Madeira's youth, "we wouldn't have so many young people leaving the island."
The JPP advocates for political debate to center on issues like housing access, decent wages, and the cost of living. Alexandre Gomes questioned whether the JSD, led by Bruno Melim, has proposed VAT reduction and the resumption of the ferry link to the mainland to the Regional Government, measures that could alleviate burdens on Madeiran families.
