The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party has accused the Regional Government of Madeira of failures in social response and mismanagement of the health system. The decision to transfer 30 patients with problematic discharges to Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS) is seen by JPP as a reflection of a system breakdown.
According to JPP, this measure, intended to prevent surgery cancellations, stems from "years of mismanagement, lack of planning, and total incompetence." The party recalls having warned in July about hundreds of people occupying hospital beds for social reasons, a situation that, according to JPP, affects 518 beds across the SESARAM network, with about 250 patients occupying inpatient beds in the largest hospitals.
JPP proposes structural intervention, including the creation of a regional network for continuing care for the elderly and dependent, and strengthening primary healthcare. It also advocates for the establishment of a Health User Ombudsman to ensure independent responses to complaints about surgery postponements.
