SESARAM announces 30 places for patients awaiting social discharge

SESARAM has announced the availability of 30 places for individuals awaiting social discharge, currently hospitalized in Funchal.

The Health Service of the Autonomous Region of Madeira (SESARAM) has announced the provision of 30 places for the reception of individuals awaiting social discharge, who are currently hospitalized at Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital and Marmeleiros Hospital.

This initiative stems from coordinated efforts between the Regional Secretariat for Health and Civil Protection and the Regional Secretariat for Inclusion, Labour, and Youth. Seventeen places have been made available, with an additional 13 planned for the coming days, aiming to address the needs of patients who remain hospitalized due to a lack of adequate social support despite clinical discharge.

SESARAM emphasizes that the prolonged stay of clinically discharged patients in a hospital setting impacts healthcare activities and bed availability. Currently, approximately 245 clinically discharged individuals are awaiting social or accommodation solutions, posing a significant challenge to the regional health system.
