Filipe Sousa, a Member of Parliament for Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP), announced a "political victory" following the approval of a legislative initiative recommending the "urgent establishment of a regular passenger and cargo ferry link between Madeira and the Continent."
The JPP stated that this measure is a significant step towards combating the island's isolation, reducing dependencies, and offering an alternative to air travel. The party urged the Government to implement the parliamentary decisions "as soon as possible," criticizing delays and studies they deem mere postponements of responsibility.
Sousa indicated that the resolution returns the ferry link issue to its previous standing before the government replaced an international public tender with a feasibility study. The JPP advocates for the government to adhere to the State Budget, proceed with the international tender, and ensure interim solutions for uninterrupted public service.
