JPP Member of Parliament Filipe Sousa has criticized the management of the new air mobility platform between Madeira and the mainland. He believes the system has turned a residents' right into a "bureaucratic labyrinth" and accuses the PSD-Madeira of remaining silent about the difficulties faced by Madeirans.
In a statement, Sousa described the platform's implementation as a "humiliation" for residents of the autonomous regions, citing issues with validations, proof of residency, delays, and lack of information. He questioned whether this represents the territorial continuity model advocated by the Portuguese state, stating that Madeirans "cannot continue to be guinea pigs for administrative experiments conducted in Lisbon offices."
The criticism also extends to the Regional Government and the Social Democratic Party (PSD) MPs elected for Madeira, whom the JPP accuses of failing to take a firm stance. Sousa views the silence of regional officials as "political submission to Lisbon's centralism," making them "accomplices to the problem." The JPP advocates for residents to pay only the subsidized fare without needing to pay the full amount upfront and await reimbursement, emphasizing that air mobility is a right, not a favour.
