The Juntos Pelo Povo (JPP) party has criticized the Funchal Municipal Council (CMF) for allegedly failing to address basic city problems. The shortcomings cited include waste collection, urban hygiene, maintenance of public spaces, pavements, lighting, and road signage.
JPP councilors António Trindade and Fátima Aveiro presented examples of "neglect and a complete lack of solutions" in worsening areas. The party also questioned the effectiveness of citizen participation mechanisms like Funchal Alerta and criticized the use of municipal resources, referencing a budget surplus of approximately 33 million euros in 2025 and an expected 14 million euros from the tourist tax in 2026.
JPP advocates for urgent problems to require "on-the-ground action, service coordination, and response capacity," rather than "studies or plans." The councilors called for greater attention to the parishes and promoted a change in method: "fewer announcements and more work; fewer excuses and neglect and more responsibility; less distance and more proximity" in municipal management.
