PS Criticizes Suspension of New Local Accommodations in Santa Cruz Effective October

The municipal deputy of the PS in Santa Cruz, Leonilde Cassiano, has criticized the decision to suspend new Local Accommodation (AL) applications in the municipality, which will only take effect from October 19th. Cassiano questions the delay between the announcement of the measure in May and its implementation, considering it reveals a "lack of strategy and decision-making capacity" by the municipal Executive.

Cassiano recalled that the suspension of AL was already advocated by the party in the 2025 municipal elections, as a way to free up properties for rent and protect access to housing. The deputy also pointed out an apparent contradiction between the Executive's concern about the pressure of AL on housing and its participation in the inauguration of new establishments.

The PS advocates for "clear, predictable, and territorially appropriate rules" to reconcile tourism growth with housing access for residents. The deputy also criticized how the municipal Executive responded to written questions about AL and housing, describing some answers as "short and evasive."
